Just because a person does not have a car it does not mean he or she are unable to provide for an animal. Some people that live in cities choose not to have cars so that they save money. It’s not fair to make assumptions about people. :(
In the city, I would agree with you. Where I live is very, very rural. Everyone has to have transportation to get around. You’re right in that many city dwellers who don’t own cars can afford a cat or dog. This isn’t what I meant in my post. Thanks for allowing me to clarify that.
Just know that if you tell me you don’t have the means to drive to meet me somewhere to meet the dog who needs a home, you probably don’t have the means to provide for a pet. So don’t inquire. Pets take a lot of money if you take care of them properly. Vet bills for annual vaccinations, check ups, and not to mention the emergency costs. Then there’s food, a proper place for your pet to be able to get away from it all such as a kennel (even small ones aren’t cheap). What about medications? Are you able to provide the proper medications for your pet if they fall ill?
Are you willing to give a lifetime commitment to a pet? Dogs and cats become very attached to their humans and when they lose them or are shuffled about, it takes a huge toll. I’ve had Jake for a little over a year now and he is just now calm enough to snuggle in for a nice snug fest. He was just too wired. Even though he adjusted much more easily in terms of not being afraid (he’s a very friendly little dog) there was a part of him that just couldn’t quite settle down like he can now.
Taking in a pet and then abandoning them because you’re bored with them is cruel.
Don’t even contact me if you’re not on board with all I’ve mentioned above. I may not be attached to this little chihuahua (which that’s pretty much a lie, but you know, I can’t have 4 dogs), but I still want him to go to a safe, nurturing home that will make him feel like he’s a very loved fur baby.
But it doesn’t work. RLS is so annoying. Here are some facts for those of you who are sick and tired of me complaining about it. (If you think you’re tired of reading about it, think how I am living with it.)
I know it’s not the worst of disorders a body could have. Just explaining why I can’t sleep most of the time.
You may not know what to call those creepy-crawly, tingly-tightening sensations in your legs. Although RLS symptoms typically occur in the legs, studies have shown those unusual leg sensations are neurological in nature. Which is why the feeling can be, well, so unnerving. RLS can make sleeping and traveling difficult and uncomfortable. People with RLS have difficulty lying down and sleeping because their legs just won’t let them, and a lack of Z’s can mean you’re tired, which may effect your ability to do normal activities the next day. RLS can also make you avoid doing things you once enjoyed, like taking long car or plane trips, or going to the movies.Symptoms include:
An urge to move the legs, usually accompanied or caused by uncomfortable and unpleasant legs sensations
Symptoms begin or worsen during periods of rest or inactivity such as lying or sitting
Symptoms are partially or totally relieved by movement, such as walking or stretching, at least as long as the activity continues
Symptoms are worse or occur only in the evening or at night
The reason he hates it is because he can’t sit on my lap. He believes I exist only for his comfort. He’s my velcro dog and it’s not that he loves me so much as it is that I’m soft and warm. If I’m not around, he finds another human to snuggle with, so his faithfulness to me is only as far as the next warm lap.
So when I’m in the office, he will usually beg for hours underneath my desk (as long as other warm laps aren’t nearby) and annoy the heck out of me.
Enter electric space heater.
I soon learned that if I put the space heater behind my chair instead of in front of it, he would curl up there instead of pawing at me for hours underneath the desk. Why he wouldn’t just curl up under the desk when it was there, I have no idea.
So now I know that his faithfulness to me goes only as far as a lot of hot air.
