This is the same company that was pissed off because McDonalds sells “premium” coffee for a lot less than $3/cup. Maybe because we are in a recession and $3 is a lot of money for just one cup of coffee?
Doesn’t surprise me one bit.
I don’t live where there is a Starbucks. We have mom and pop shops here in small town America. The nearest Wal-mart is 30 miles away.
But when I go to Fort Wayne to shop, there are three or four of these shops within less of a mile from each other. There’s one in the mall, one across the street from the mall, and one across the street from that in the Barnes and Noble connected to the Mall.
Way too many shops.
And I have never been able to justify spending money there. I have bought an apple juice there a couple of times and one latte. Where I come from, spending that much money on a drink is a waste of money.
“‘Everyone of us is losing something precious to us,’ he says after the phone stops ringing. ‘Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back again. That’s part of what it means to be alive. But inside our heads - at least that’s where I imagine it- there’s a little room where we store those memories. A room that like the stacks in this library. And to understand the workings of our own heart we have to keep on making new reference cards. We have to dust things off every once in a while, let in fresh air, change the water in the flower vases. In other words, you’ll live forever in your own private library.’”—Kafka on the Shore (via 52books)
$13.95 book, repeated calls and letters, and they even sent a cop to talk to her in September. Now she had to pay a $250 bond, ouch.
Okay, this is just stupid. If I were arrested for every book I lost (and told the library) I would be in prison for life! I just pay for the book and move on. The library should have just charged her for the book and then pulled her library card until the debt was paid. What is wrong with people? Apparently there isn’t enough crime in Iowa to keep the police busy.
Sometimes, when God puts roadblocks in your path and your life doesn’t go the direction you think it should, you need to accept that He has a very good reason - and that you can trust Him with your life.
